Time flies, especially when you’re behind the wheel of a brand new car! When you signed up to lease your shiny new vehicle no doubt three of four years felt like a long, long time away but suddenly you’ve got an email to say you only have six months left on your current term. Here’s our guide on what your options are.
Nearing the end of your lease period is, in our opinion, pretty exciting! It means that in a few short months you will be enjoying that new car smell once again - if you decide on leasing a new vehicle of course.
Essentially, you have two options.
Lease a different car. One of the big benefits of leasing is that you get to drive a new vehicle every two or three years (or sometimes four). If your needs have changed, you could go with a completely different kind of vehicle - perhaps there’s been the pitter patter of tiny feet in the past few years which means you need more space, or kids may have flown the nest so a two-seater is finally a possibility!
Or of course you could go for more of the same.
The car industry sees new launches on a very regular basis so you will have the choice of brand
new models as well as updated versions of the most popular cars.
We recommend you make a list of what you’re looking for, what your budget is and then get
searching. CarContractHire.com has thousands of deals available to you and with a quick and easy search function you can browse all of the options in the comfort of your home.
Walk away. Another benefit of leasing is that you don’t have to lease another car at the end of
your initial term if you don’t want to. We find that most people who have leased will continue to do so thanks to the cost benefits and convenience but of course for some, circumstances change.
Before making a final decision we always recommend you do some number crunching and work out if you’ll be financially worse off buying a new or used car or opting into your compan car scheme.
As with any financial decision, arming yourself with the facts and figures will lead you to make the right decision for you.
Whichever option you go for you will need to give your car a bit of care and attention before handing it back.
Your car should be clean and free of damage, with only normal (light) wear and tear. Check out our blog to find out more about what is considered to be fair wear and tear.
A bit of a spring clean, is a good idea too. Clean the car inside and out, remove any stains, clear out rubbish and don’t forget to remove your personal belongings too! Wash and wax the car too - hopefully you’ll have been looking after your car throughout the term!
