Hands up if you're leaving for work in the dark and getting home in the dark.
Yep...us too and it's important at this time of year to take a moment to think about how safe you are on the roads whether in a brand new lease car or a vehicle you've driven for years.
Stopping distances are a big deal
How many times have you had some one tail gating you on a country road or on the motorway? It can be really intimidating, make you feel you should drive faster, even on roads you don't know or in conditions you are uncomfortable with. Our advice in this situation is to pull over when safe to do so and let them pass.
Whilst you can't do much to amend other people's stopping distances you can work on your own which is why we wanted to share this image (above) with you from the Department of Transport.
The distances in this graphic are based on a reaction time of 0.67 seconds, which assumes the driver is alert and concentrating fully.
They also assume 'average' vehicle size and dry conditions - so think of them as a minimum.
If you've just taken delivery of a brand new lease car, you'll take a little while to get used to how responsive the brakes are too - it's important in any car to get to know how it should be driven but especially in a car that's new to you such as a brand new lease car.
We hope that looking at these figures will make you stop and think about your stopping distances next time you’re behind the wheel.
