It’s summer…..the sun is shining so hands up if you drove to work this morning with the roof down on your convertible?
Here’s our top tips on the do’s and don’ts of driving a soft top in the sunshine!
Top Tips
Keep a long sleeved top, sun cream and a hat handy – it goes without saying that you will be exposed to the elements with your roof down and being safe in the sun is important.
The long sleeves might come in handy if the sun’s out but the air’s chilly (we are in the UK after all!)
A hair brush in the glove compartment is a pretty good idea too!
As a general rule it’s roof down…windows up! This will keep the cabin cozy even with the wind whistling around you.
Even though some new models allow you to put the roof up or down when moving, we don’t recommend it! Wait until you can safely pull over (and remember the hard shoulder on the motor way is not a safe place to sort your roof out!)
Talking of motorways - some people love to drive at 70mph with their roof down, others really don’t like it. See how you feel comfortable and just do what feels good.
Don’t leave the roof down when you park your car …..you’ll risk finding all sorts of leaves, bird poop and other unmentionables in your car not to mention the risk to your belongings in the glove box.
Finally of course it doesn’t need to be 30-degrees to get that roof down, a clear, crisp cold day can offer as much convertible driving fun so just wrap up warm and enjoy!
