ESSENTIAL GUIDE FOR EMERGENCIES

You’re tired, stressed, and you’ve had a long week at work. You want nothing more than to race home and relax. Don’t worry we know you’re not the sort of person to drive home over the speed limit, but we have compiled a list of some other surprising things that could prevent you ending up in a dreaded emergency.

•    Be careful about playing fast, upbeat music on your way home. The pace of the music may cause you to drive faster which means you have less time to react to what’s going on in front of you!
•    Start scanning the horizon ahead of you. Focusing on the bumper in front of you means that you’re putting your trust in a driver that you don’t know. It’s much better to trust yourself and watch the road ahead so you can anticipate any potential problems.
•    Keep your headlights on all day, whether that be on the school run or coming home from work. Human vision is light-seeking so keeping your headlights on means that pedestrians and other cars are more likely to see you coming.

Other good precautions to take are:-

•    Make sure you don’t have too many objects lying around in your car. If you find yourself in a high speed accident these seemingly harmless objects could act as missiles.
•    Make sure you always have your mobile in your pocket when driving. You never want to be in a situation where you can’t reach your phone to call for help.
•    Always have your phone fully charged! If you do remember to keep your phone in your pocket, it’s not much use if it’s only on 1% battery.
•    In an emergency make sure you don’t jerk your steering as it could cause your tyres to lose traction and spin the car. Instead you should aim to steer smoothly.

Ok we don’t mean to sound like your mother, but whilst we are talking about how to stay safe.. make sure you always have enough sleep before driving and make sure you take regular breaks. Finally, if in doubt don’t pull out. It might be tempting to squeeze into that space but it’s not worth risking your life over.   Happy and safe driving!
