THE LGC REVIEW OF THE POLESTAR 2

The LGC team were very pleased to have a  Polestar 2 Fastback 170kWh Long Range (Single Motor 5 door auto) on demo recently - it was enjoyed by a few of the team and Andrew and Scott have summarised what they think about this sleek all electric car.

Andrew liked the styling of the Polestar, both interior and exterior saying that it is by no means radical and it seems the Polestar isn’t striving to be hugely different but it’s stylish and well thought out nevertheless. The iPad style central control unit is great and equipment wise provides everything you would need and there are lots of safety features on board.

Andrew went on to say that the Polestar is a very smooth ride, quiet and feels well built with absolutely no loose rattles or shakes and the slightly higher driving position gave good visibility and  was comfortable. The performance of the car is excellent and with the electric motor the instant acceleration of 0 to 60 in around 7 seconds it’s really pleasing.

Andrew’s summary is that he would absolutely drive this car!

Scott took the Polestar on a 175 mile round trip from OVL’s head office to Leicester to see a client. Scott left Brightwell Baldwin with 100% charge didn’t need to charge the vehicle en route. He points out it’s worth checking on charging options even if you think you won’t need them!

A quick bit of research on Zap Map showed Scott what would be available en-route.

14 – 50 kWh Chargers (4 of which were not far from setting off / arriving home) 15 minutes would give about 45 Miles extra range

3 – 120 kWh Chargers - 15 minutes would give about 105 Miles extra range

2- 150 kWh Chargers - 15 minutes would give about 130 Miles extra range

NB. There were lots of other slower chargers enroute but they would have taken too long to give useful range - reassuring to know the network is in place however!

Scott left with 100% battery from Brightwell Baldwin and arrived in Leicester with 65% battery remaining having covered 90 miles. The drive was mostly on the motorway, it was a chilly day at around 7° and whilst the Polestar official range states 336 miles, average real life range is around 267 - of course this depends on speed style of driving weather and route conditions as with all electric vehicles.

Scott said the car was very comfortable and the adaptive cruise control was really efficient, coupled with lane assist on the motorway it almost felt like the car would drive itself!

As with most new electric cars you can connect it to your phone via an app which offers features such as opening and locking, climate control, checking the battery levels and use as a digital key. The Polestar app doesn’t have as many gadgets as the Tesla but it does the job.

Scott’s overall summary is that it’s a great car, well built ,smooth and comfortable with a realistic range that would accommodate most every day requirements.
