The introduction of Crossover cars to the market feels a bit like we’ve ticked a load of boxes blending the versatility of an estate, the looks and ride height of an SUV, the fuel economy of a smaller car, the price of a hatchback, put this into a ‘magical machine’ and hey presto, out comes the Crossover.
For many drivers they are the perfect package.
Another benefit to this class of vehicle is the large range of sizes available. There are family sized crossovers such as the Kia Sportage, Nissan Qashqai and BMW X1 and there are smaller models such as the Nissan Juke, Suzuki Vitara and the Citroen C3 Cactus.
Most crossovers are front-wheel drive, four-wheel drive is often available as an option for the highest spec models and there is usually a good range of petrol and diesel engines to choose from.
What to look out for when leasing a Crossover
Consider size requirements – if you have growing teenagers and want a ‘load lugger’ then a smaller Crossover might not quite fit the bill but if you’re happy with a 5 seater with a bit of leg room, this type of car might be perfect for you.
Power! Do you want your Crossover to tow? If so check their capacities. Most crossovers are built on car-based platforms and their engines are chosen because of their fuel-saving capabilities (which is of course a great benefit!)
Equally if you want off-road capabilities, a traditional SUV will be better for you as few crossovers can withstand the rigors of off-road driving.
Safety should be a consideration before you decide on which new car you want to lease and crossovers are no exception. The Euro NCAP safety ratings are a good place to start.
