Car Leasing Review - the VW Golf 2.0 TDI

The VW Golf is in our opinion a solid option if your're looking for quality, comfort and decent space for a car of this size. We've rounded up what the key motoring mags think to help you in your car leasing decision.

AutoExpress

"The Volkswagen Golf has always delivered high levels of comfort, refinement and handling poise, and the facelifted Mk7 is no exception. Enter a series of corners, where the Golf responds swiftly to the direct and well weighted steering. There’s also bags of grip and rock-solid body control, which make the VW a confidence-inspiring machine. Better still, this agility is matched to impressive refinement and comfort. The ride isn’t as soft as a Renault Megane’s, but it’s better controlled over big bumps, while engine, wind and road noise are isolated from the cabin."

Telegraph

"The Volkswagen Golf remains one of the best all-rounders on sale, with a level of space, quality and performance that puts it a long way ahead of most mainstream rivals. The higher-powered 1.0-litre petrol is a delight to drive, with fuel economy figures that aren’t far off what you’d get from a diesel. It’s still worth trying an Audi A3 as well, but the Golf’s price advantage might just be too hard to ignore."

CarBuyer

"The Golf has always offered impressive interior quality and recent models are even better in this regard. Interior materials are first-class and the handsome dashboard is clear and logical, while interior space is reasonable for a car of this size. Also good news – especially for families – is that every model has autonomous emergency braking as standard.

The Volkswagen Golf finished 18th out of the 75 cars ranked in our 2017 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey of cars currently on sale in the UK and its proven durability helps it to remain a hot property on the used market. Its strong residual values also mean that it can be more cost-effective to finance than certain rivals. All in all, the latest Golf is as compelling a package as it ever has been and can still hold its own in the face of ever-strengthening competition."

CarWow

"The cabin is dotted with lots of useful storage areas for drinks bottles, wallets and other odds and ends. The felt-lined front door bins deserve special recognition – no longer will anything rattle around and send you mad on long drives.

And despite not being a huge car, family holidays aren’t out of the question in the Golf – its boot has a moveable floor so you can make it easier to load, or deeper to swallow a holiday’s worth of suitcases. The Golf’s a bit of an obvious choice but there’s a reason – it has some neat touches that lift it above other family cars."

AutoCar

"It will be of considerable discomfort to Volkswagen’s rivals that it takes practically no time at all to recognise that the Golf’s superiority has been carried over intact – and still defines its lead over the chasing pack.

As with the previous version, this car’s excellence is slightly nebulous, but only in as much as practically everything about it seems to have been well thought out and then sagely and expensively executed.

In doing so, the manufacturer’s preference for very light facelifts between every other generation continues to smack of mild cynicism – but it is so effortlessly good at spinning minute improvements as evidence of continual investment that buyers of the Golf must be left in little doubt that their money has been spent shrewdly."

TopGear

"The Golf, despite ever more talented rivals, VW’s best efforts to ruin the cabin tech, and the scandal of its own making, is as strong as it’s ever been. Supremely refined, really sorted to drive and boasting a breadth of range that means there’s something for everyone.

It’s the car that Top Gear staffers tend to recommend when asked ‘what should I buy?’ more often than anything else."

Little Green Leasing Summary

Praise indeed for this update on the classic VW model! It's so impressive how the VW constantly finds ways to redefine the Golf, never letting it fall out of favour with petrol-heads and casual consumers alike. The critics are loving this car's interior space, whilst noting that even with its ability to host all of the family quite comfortably and with the increased boot-size, it still handles impressively and has great agility. This car isn't a VW best-seller without reason and we've got a great lease price at LGC - starting at under £195 per month!
