Anyone who owns a car has one (in fact they have two!)
It’s something you’re more than likely to commit to memory
It costs around £15 to buy a replacement
and it’s a sure fire way to determine age
Worked out what we’re talking about?
The humble number plate of course.
As we race towards March and the new 16 plates appearing on our roads we thought we’d share exactly what our number plate system means.
The current number plate format was introduced in 2001.
On the current format number plate the first two letters show where the vehicle was registered.
The two numbers in the middle are the age identifier. This changes on the 1st March and the 1st September – so for 2016 this numbers will be 16 and 66 respectively.
The last three letters are completely random and give the car it’s unique identity.
Of course we still see a handful of old number plates on our roads – some on classic cars and some on….not so classics, but whilst the vehicles are still roadworthy then why not? Do you remember the number plate of your first car?
We came across this brilliant website where you can check if your beloved old motor is still on the road….https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk ... I checked for my first car, a 1.1 Ford Fiesta and sadly she’s not listed!
